Pursuit of Happyness [film review]

For this months creativity part of my CAS I decided to write a film review. The movie I chose is “Pursuit of Happyness” based on Chris Gardeners’ real life story, directed by Gabrielle Muccino. The main role (of Chris Gardner) was brilliantly played by Will Smith. I chose this film as it discusses family values in an unconventional way that leaves the watcher truly moved by the touching message. Pursuit of happyness is a movie from 2006 in the genre of drama. It tells about characters who stand together on a journey of Poverty in a highly industrialised world. The plot tells of a single father that struggles to make ends meet for him and his son. He is the creator of a new medical machine invented by him, but unfortunately he repeatedly fails to advertise and sell this device. ...

Fondation Louis Vuitton

The Fondation Louis Vuitton is based in Paris, France, it opened in 2014 and was sponsored by the Louis Vuitton corporation. The building was designed by an American architect Frank Gary in the deconstructivism style. Although the initial budget was 100 million euros, the actual cost was 780 million euros, almost 8 times more than budgeted. The museum is perfect for modern and contemporary art lovers. The exhibitions in the museums are temporary and change twice a year. But what does not change is the architecture of the building which continues to amaze the visitors. The complex structure of the museum, the mirrored pathway leading to the stair fountain and the tarrase with a panoramic view on the city of Paris all create a sense that the building and its integral parts are the...

German Romanticism in visual arts

German Romanticism was an intellectual movement among German-speaking countries and generally German-speaking communities in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Its impact is reflected in aesthetics and literature. Compared to another pioneering European movement – English Romanticism, German Romanticism valued humor and beauty as well as wisdom. Focus on nature The object of focus at the time was nature and the spiritual aspects of it. Visual artists explored landscape psychization, portraying their motherlands. The role of painters was to contemplate the ethereal, almost psychic character of the environment, and translate it into art. The compositions varied for a modern viewer, some had a surrealistic feel into them, while others had more of an impressionist take. T...

Land art in Pieńki

Land art centres around rejection of the commercialization of art-making and includes spiritual reflection on the planet Earth as home to humanity. It is made directly in the landscape, sculpting the land itself into earthworks or making structures in the landscape using such objects as rocks or twigs found on-site. During our open air workshops in Pieńki students had an unique opportunity to work distant from urban areas. They observed the vast sky and the distant horizon line; variability of colours and light depending on the time of day and weather. They examined different structures and textures of natural materials like soil, stones, vegetation, and water. These observations were a starting point for land art assignment. The aim of the task completed in Pieńki was to expan...

Chanel prefall 2019

Karl Lagerfeld, the famous creative director of the French luxury fashion house "Chanel", has yet again outdone himself in the latest Chanel pre-fall 2019’s fashion show. Set around the astonishing Metropolitan Museum of Arts 10 B.C’s Temple of Dendur, the show was a tribute to the art of craftsmanship. It was a consistent combination of Ancient Egypt and modern Chanel’s styles. To make the scenery more reliable, all surrounding columns have been covered with thick papyrus. However, the temple itself, was partially covered and hidden from the audience. This made the place look more dramatic, as if the Guests were to enter a secret Ancient gathering. Lagerfeld started the show with the famous Chanel tweed jackets, which were presented during his last spring-summer show as well. However, ...

Fenomen Agaty Christie, czyli zabójcza miłość do nieśmiertelnej królowej zbrodni

Kiedy myślimy kryminał do głowy przychodzi nam jedno nazwisko - Christie.

Margaret Cavendish – Proto-Frankenstein i feministka w krynolinie

Choć jeszcze niedawno obchodzono dwustolecie publikacji „Frankensteina”, nie każdy wie, że na długo przed Mary Shelley istniała inna wyjątkowa twórczyni, której proto-science fiction jest głównym obiektem zainteresowania tegorocznego The Great Exhibition of the North – jednego z ważniejszych wydarzeń kulturalnych w Anglii. Księżna Margaret Cavendish (1623-1673), bo to o niej mowa, w swoim sztandarowym dziele literackim „The Description of a New World, Called The Blazing-World” prezentuje motyw zejścia do świata podziemnego, o którym nie śniło się Juliuszowi Verne („Podróż do wnętrza ziemi”) czy Edgarowi Allanowi Poe („Przygody Artura Gordona Pyma”). Oprócz jej fantazmatów na temat pustej Ziemi, postać księżnej oferuje jednak znacznie więcej – tę ponadprzeciętną umysłowość okreś...

Why contemporary art is so controversial

The moment you type anything on Google, automatically you get five options underneath about the most commonly searched questions that start like the one you just wrote. When you type ‘why modern art is’ the first things that pop up are: why modern art is bad/trash/not art but also: why modern art is important. The opinions about the most recent art genre are widely divided. Some think it’s utter rubbish while others see it as revolutionary and important. So what is all this craze surrounding a simple topic about? No limits The reason contemporary art has faced so much critique ever since it first came out in the 1960’s is that the whole idea behind it is to push boundaries and break rules. Most importantly, to be so unconventional, that people who see your work, instead of observi...

Charles Bukowski – pijak, kobieciarz, geniusz

Syn Niemki i Ame...
